Dunya Institute for Higher Education holds a five-day Educational Seminar
Dunya Institute for Higher Education held a five-day educational seminar with the collaboration of UMEF University and its partners on 4 August 2009 on the main campus of DIHE.

Mr. Djawed Sangdel, Chancellor and founder of DIHE in his inaugural speech expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of Afghan and foreign professors and intellectuals and the assistance of the University of Management, Economics and Finance (UMEF) and its partners.

In his speech, Mr. Sangdel explained the DIHE’s teaching methods, the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), the possibility of sending outstanding students to Swiss universities, the granting of two diplomas (national and international) to graduate students, classes equipped with the latest technology, a library, a Mosque, Internet access, a free kindergarten, a canteen, parking and other facilities, for which he received a warm ovation from the audience.

After Mr. Sangdel’s address, other speakers came to the rostrum. They were, in chronological order, Dr. Dastgir Rezai, an Afghan specialist and now resident in Holland, Professor Jean Papaioannou, professor of political science from Greece, now living in Switzerland, Dr. Edgar Bellow with a doctorate in international business from Brazil, now living in France and Professor Samuel Wee, professor of management, leadership and finance from Singapore, also residing in Switzerland. All are tutors at UMEF and they emphasized the benefits of high-quality education, the importance of establishing DIHE and the vision, creativity and energy of Mr. Sangdel.
Dr. Bellow talked about Mr. Sangdal’s genius, his creative ability and leadership skills and proudly added: “He was my student a few years ago and he followed my direction, but right now I am being directed by him!”

At the end of the ceremony at 21.00, questions were taken from the floor and they included the reason DIHE was established, the cost of education, the conditions of admission for students who have financial problems and who would be unable to pay the fees and the issues regarding students who live a long distance from the University. These questions were answered by the Chancellor and Founder of DIHE to the satisfaction of all present.

The most exciting, and perhaps rewarding, part of the programme was when some of the young boys and girls, the next generation, bombarded Mr. Sangdel with their questions, all of which he answered with patience. At the same time, Mr. Sangdel pointed out a young disabled boy who had lost both his feet and who had come to the seminar sessions in a wheelchair and said: “This young man has such a strong desire to complete his higher education despite his handicap and despite the fact that he has no income to pay the fees. His courage and tenacity touched me and I decided to pay the course fees leading to his graduation from my own pocket.”

This gesture was greatly appreciated by the delegates and they used the word  “champion”. General Ahmad Shah Sangdel, the representative of the Nejat Foundation in Holland who also participated in the seminars, presented the boy with a new wheelchair as a gift to enable him to be able to move more easily around the campus to facilitate his access to all the educational facilities.

It should be mentioned that all those who took part in this educational seminar were awarded a certificate by both DIHE and UMEF.
